Denise Grünstein
Denise Grünstein was born in 1950 in Helsinki. She lived and worked in Stockholm.
Since the beginning of 2000, Grünstein devoted herself to staged photography, often with women in focus. Her work includes references to the history of painting and photography, where she has been inspired by the romance of the 19th Century and the surrealism of the 20th Century. In her staged photographs, she created a peculiar world, where beauty meets a feeling of disharmony.
A selection of Grünstein’s solo exhibitions include CFHILL, Stockholm (2018); Nationalmuseum, Stockholm (2015); Mjellby Konstmuseum, Halmstad (2013); KIASMA, Helsinki (2010); Hasselblad Center, Gothenburg (2005); Centre Culturel Suedoise, Paris (2004); Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2001) and Arkipelag-Tekniska Museet, Stockholm (1998). Group exhibitions include Artipelag, Stockholm (2020); Aperture Gallery, New York (2014); Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall (2012); Nationalmuseum, Stockholm (2010); Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2011) and Fotografiska Museet, Stockholm (1993, 1981).
